Battles
Battles occur when Kai from opposing Factions occupy the same areas on the map. At the start of battle, all BATTLE Modifiers activate. After battles are completed, a Battle Report is generated, logging the results of every battle. There are three types of battles:
En-route battles occur when Kai from opposing factions come into contact while traveling along the same Route to their destination. If the battle ends in a draw, factions will retreat back to their own zones as reinforcements before any zone battles take place. If a faction is victorious in the battle, their Kai will continue into the target zone.
Zone battles occur when Kai from opposing factions occupy the same zone, making it contested. A faction takes control over a zone when all Kai from opposing factions are defeated. If the battle ends in a draw, factions will retreat back to their own zones.
Sudden Death battles occur when a faction retreats to a zone that is now occupied by an opposing faction. Factions battle until only one has Kai occupying the zone or until all Kai of each faction become disabled. If all Kai for each faction become disabled, the faction that was in control of the zone at the start of a sudden death battle remains in control of the zone.

During combat, all Kai attack and defend at the same time by default.
A faction can only take control of a zone if they are the only faction in the zone.
A zone without any Kai is still considered to be under the control of the faction that last had Kai in the zone.
If multiple factions enter a neutral zone or an unoccupied zone of another faction, and at least two factions still have Kai remaining, then all Kai must withdraw to the zone they entered from.
If a faction is in control of a zone during the Strategy Phase and opposing factions are unable to take the zone by the end of a battle, Active Kai of other factions retreat to the zones they entered from.
If a cycle limit is reached in the standard game mode of Domination, all battles will become Sudden Death battles.
